Emergency Preparedness
- Teachers are responsible for all students under their supervision during drill or emergency procedures. All persons in the building are expected to respond to the first sounding of the alarm by evacuating to the predesignated area. This includes students, teachers, office staff , visitors, contractors, cafeteria personnel and custodians
- If the phone intercom system is not operational due to the emergency, information will be passed by the most expeditious means including megaphone or messengers
- All classrooms should have a radio. Turn it on and listen for updates from administrators
- If students are at lunch, the faculty/staff will help them exit the building, leaving their lunches on the tables. Students will line up by classes in the nearest safe area and their teachers will meet them.
- If students are at recess, they will follow the playground supervisors’ instructions to line up in their regular places. Their teachers will meet them. If students are on the other side of the building from where they usually line up, the playground supervisor will help them line up by classes.
- Students who are not in a classroom (for example: in the bathroom, library, etc.) should leave the building by the nearest available doorway and report to the area where their class musters outside. If between classes, muster in the area where your previous class typically meets
- Teachers are responsible for their class throughout the emergency until the “all clear” is given, or a parent has picked up all students or designated person. This ensures peace of mind and prevents you from being distracted. Be sure your own children know what to do in case of a major, or minor emergency, as you will likely be unable to telephone them with instructions during the course of the emergency.
